My path was something like Windows > Ubuntu > Windows > Mint > Ubuntu > Debian (just a bit) > Arch > Fedora.

Slack > Red Hat > Debian Stable > Debian Unstable > Parabola > Arch > Ubuntu. You reach a point, if you are just a regular user when normal things mostly working is good enough.

Agree, stability (and convenience) is king! Not a fan of Ubuntu though. And I tried to like it multiple time too šŸ˜…

Suse (1998) > Windows > Red Hat (2004) > Windows > Ubuntu Budgie (2017) > Kubuntu (2022) Suse and red hat were not good at that time, too many issues using for daily work.

Suse could not handle internal dial up cards, so I could not connect to the internet. And it was a weird distribution. Red Hat had problems mounting usual USB Sticks, and burning a CD was real effort.

(re : Slack > Red Hat > Debian Stable ...) I like linux mint more than ubuntu, which forces things on you and used to leak searches to amazon. Cinnamon looks nicer than unity or gnome or whatever they have now

OpenBSD is still like that, some kind of weird mounting procedure that I end up creating an alias for. And tried mining with a AMD card on Ubuntu two years ago. Getting the graphics card set-up was a nightmare.

Depends what you like. I spent a year with StumpWM, which basically is a stacked window manager with keyboard shortcuts that make sense if you spend a lot of time in Emacs. It's probably the coolest thing about Linux is if you have good enough technical chops, you can make it behave in whatever way makes sense to you. But, definitely something to be said for picking a distro you don't have to fiddle with much.

situation is maybe a bit better now. i was mining on opensuse tumbleweed in a amd rocm ubuntu container. getting it all set up isn't so bad if you're familiar with docker/podman/ w/e
