Workers can run as a proxy for Websocket connections, but it cannot terminate them or modify messages.

Does cloudflare bill each websocket message as a request?
  • g

    ginkoid

    01/15/2021, 7:09 PM
no each connection is 1 request

    ginkoid

    01/15/2021, 7:09 PM
unless youre using unbound i think?
  • s

    Stan

    01/15/2021, 7:10 PM
what is the response time like on it?
  • g

    ginkoid

    01/15/2021, 7:10 PM
uh as fast as a normal http response
  • g

    ginkoid

    01/15/2021, 7:10 PM
probably faster since the connection is already established

but remember that each connection still has the cpu time + subrequest limit unless youre using unbound

đź‘‹ Sanity check, account_id and zone_id are okay to publish in a version controlled wrangler.toml, right?

Yes, Workers can be a WebSocket server without DO. The only caveat is you can’t force connections to arrive at the same isolate (worker instance).

An example use-case would be proxying and transforming websocket messages. Since you’re just forwarding the connection, they don’t need to all go to the same isolate.

But if you wanted to make a websocket web game, you’d need DO
