I haven't understood how the +100 PB would be distributed, it will be like the vaults of B2, single zone multiple racks divided via reed solomon or something like that AWS S3 multiple zone/region? Or something else? It would be interesting if the object was dynamically moved to the regions where statistically it would get more requests.

There is zero chance that there will be just one copy of things.. The whole point of CF is to move files to where the requests are

Does R2 support versioning, progress callback, multipart upload, copy from object to object location, is there a browser sdk and how big is it?

For SDK you can most likely just use any S3 one that already exists, like aws or minio sdk

Someone should register the R2.dev domain before a domain squatter could grab it

How will R2 performance compare with KV? Will KV be faster for cold reads / reads

Those are all things that we will be finding out over the next few months I am sure 🙂

Building out a system like R2 is a decidedly non-trivial matter 😄 It is going to start containing a bunch of PB and going to grow significantly from there.. They have been working on it well under a year. The fact that they are where they are is insane.. and the fact that an open beta is hopefully less than a few months away is just mind boggling.

If you can't it's likely already been grabbed by someone at CF, don't worry.

Hmm should I grab r2.cf also?

Would there be any file/object size limit?

Technically speaking at least, keeping something like a single massive 100 TB object in order sounds like a hell of an undertaking

No one is able to say anything at this time that isn’t in the blog post. So everything else is speculating.

Are R2 and Backblaze B2 complimentary or competitors? I know egress is free via cloudflare from backblaze...

I am pretty sure they would be frenemies.. They provide sort of the same functionality, but there would be little point trying to steal each others customers when S3 is the 1000 megaton gorilla in the room..

As far as I know, R2 pricing isn't locked down yet, but it will probably be a little more expensive than B2, but R2 makes up for that fact by being globally available. So I feel like it might serve different niches.

Definitely not locked down but you can get an idea from the blog post where they quoted an estimate of $0.015/gb

b2 also only stores it in one region, so you'll need to duplicate it if you want protection against regional issues. Which is something you'll need to handle yourself copying between the US/eu instance. So then you're comparing $0.015 vs $0.01 purely on storage, so depends what value you put on that being handled for you + whatever performance differences/other features r2 has.
