An SQL statement walks into a bar and sees two tables. It approaches and asks “may I join you?” #happyfriday

Greenfield applications are fun. I wonder where I could find someone who needs an app written from scratch?

    • Society is much more open to entrepreneurship and having a side-hustle or gig that’s getting off the ground slowly. • Communities like Microconf, or indiehackers are wonderful places to meet other people like yourself (and me) interested in leveraging our knowledge to get paid. • Lots of people create 1-3 people business that can do 6-7 figures a year. • This is especially true if you have domain specific knowledge that is deep and specialized • CF devs are often more exposed to problems that are valuable to solve for $ • Personally I wish I could meet a bunch of aspiring CF entrepreneurs, as I still believe CF is an unfair advantage to leverage to ship and update. Today’s techs can slow iterations down like crazy. • I’m actually at a loss as to why I’ve never explored this slack to meet others who might be interested into leveraging what they already know. I have built and commercialized with CF a few times, part time to full time, self-funded and not. The opportunity today has never been better with so many more people online than 20 years ago. moved message here from #jobs

I see the latest MAMP update fixed Apache privileged startup ports on Mac, which previously was the reason I couldn’t get CF working on newer Mac versions with MAMP. Curious if anyone has tried again?! It’s on my bucket list, but won’t be tonight…

this video helped to understand why most of our OO-programming suck - because we people suck at defining objects, merging and separating composite objects, having trouble naming things and have no agreement on philosophy of stuff

You see, I've been unhappy at work for a long time, but this year I compared my W2 to the previous year, and my gross income actually went down from the year before.

Here's another thought though: in finding a replacement, I am basically trying to find an entry level job that has a salary better than the one I've built up here.
  • p

    phillipsenn

    05/03/2023, 4:10 PM
Now you might say that I shouldn't think of myself as entry level, but what I'm talking about is that first year or couple of years where you are considered the new guy.

It's your entry into the company.

Another observation is that it gets easier after you get over the setup of having to fill out forms on job sites.
  • p

    phillipsenn

    05/03/2023, 4:15 PM
After you've filled out a few forms on a few sites, they then have your information and you can start leveraging that to "quick apply".

Over the years, I've made decisions on how to write code, and I'm fully aware that other people in other organizations have made different decisions. So that's what makes me entry level as well.
