Hey 👋 I worked at a startup for the last 6 years and one of my passion projects was enabling the rest of the org to make effective use of data. I tried to summarize what worked for us and how I would go about this when starting out. If you are a fellow data engineer or you are in another role at a company that is just starting out with integrating data into their everyday work, maybe this is helpful: https://jorin.me/gettting-started-building-a-data-driven-business/ I am happy to hear what insights others have to share or if there is anything you are struggling with in this regard 🙂

I like it and agree with basically all of it. A small thing I might include is choosing whether some piece of the workflow can be incrementally upgraded to fill a feature gap, or whether it needs to be wholescale replaced. You mentioned Google Analytics in the article - one of our early wins was a customer using us to replace GA because they specifically needed it to be faster, and needed it to be suitable for EU privacy laws, but in all other respects it was what they wanted. They lift and shifted it to us, adopted the new capabilities, and otherwise went back to work, it was pretty neat 🙂

Thanks Daniel! That's an interesting point. It's definitely less effort and less risk if you can just try something new parallel to old things or if you can introduce something incrementally.
