Not a technical question, but what to do other early stage enterprise SaaS startups do for sales automation, specifically during contract discussions? Are there better solutions than emailing word documents back and forth?

pandadoc.com seems like it can help. Vanta+Trustpage also seems good for security/compliance questions.
I wonder if there are standards here. My biggest concern is to use non-standard tooling, which may end up being worse than email if the other company isn't used to it.

Do you mean the phase between sign up and onboarding?

Yes. Basically, assume they want to buy at an agreed price. Converting that to a signed cloud services agreement is the bit that's painful.

My enterprise flow looks like this:
1. Discovery call
2. Email a PDF proposal with 3 tiers to cover their specific needs.
3. Final call to confirm what package they want
4. Send contract via docusign
This flow prevents the need to have many files/docs sent back and forth - not sure if that is what you were looking for but figured it would be nice to put it out there in case it could help. 🙂

Thanks.. does your service manage their sensitive data, and do they need DPAs, security checklists, etc.?

My last company had an enterprise client where sensitive financial data was managed.
Both parties signed an NDA, and we continued business as usual via g suite.
