Curious to Know:
PMs in SaaS companies, how do you train your sales teams on new features or products? What kind of documents do you share, in what format, and how long does the training usually last?

I'm an engineer on a sales team(sometimes, I think)...for the sales folks what I've seen work best is a solid "why" this feature or fix exists. how it is supposed to help customers. And a 30 second elevator pitch. Doesn't hurt to mention industries or use cases where it will help.
for the engieers in sales, all of that plus examples, DOCS(SERIOUSLY DOCS OR IT DOESN"T EXIST!!! and they have to be public). How this will change how/where/when people use the product. Helps also if there's a what this feature enables in the future, how it ties into the larger vision or strategy. Format for either can be anything. The method of delivery doesn't much matter. email in news letter format, powerpoint, presentation on an all-hands.

It's most important that the way the information is relayed is consistent. Please don't make me search through 8 different delivery methods, 7 jiras and 30 slack DMs. If "you should have found it..." is said you've failed.

DOCS OR IT DOESNT EXIST
Love that! 😂 One thing we do at LittleHorse is if we want to reserve the right to evolve an API, we don’t put that feature in our docs yet…that way we can merge it to main and use it internally but not make promises about it.

I'm a huge fan of Simon Sinek as a public speaker. Such a great delivery style.

He's the post child for passion wins. He's not the best speaker on earth, he's not the most likable, and I disagree with some things he says...but I enjoy the absolute heck out of his talks

Imho, if it's a new product, don't pass it on to sales until you've sold it yourself first.

Or don't hire sales until you're ready 🙂

Try giving the team a demo and walk them through a mock sales call. Show them exactly how it's used, and what problem it solves, and who it would be a good recommendation for. You need to give the a starting ground and something that they can mirror until they feel comfortable enough to make it their own.
