I’ve tried zenithal priming before because I’m a contrast painter and I really just don’t notice the difference between that and plain white scar or wraithbone prime. I also find the parts that remain mostly black after the prime are very difficult to cover with contrast. Could be my technique I suppose or I don’t know if my colourblindness throws off the effect.

The « trick » is to spray wraithbone lightly almost everywhere and more on the areas you want your imaginary light source to focus on. Also try to drybrush white on edges you want highlighted

Wraihtbone is a bit warmer, white scar is supposed to be white (not sure if you bought the old one or the new one) but yes as MrFox said drybrushing some real white paint helps a bit. If you want even more definition and contrast, before you drybrush, you can do a bit of shading with a shade too. Or oil wash after you painted the whole model. I found Grey Seer to be the closest to what I want in underlaying color and has the best coverage btw

Oh I only use a plain white when I try to zenithal. I just meant I don’t notice the difference between zenithal and just going plain white or wraithbone.

For contrast paint zenithal priming I recommend drybrush with white afterwards, so that also some black parts receive some visible colors. The only black parts are otherwise to dark for these highly transparent colors.

The biggest difference is that a zenithal will create deeper recesses/shadows than just white primer.

Not an Oathsworn mini, but this was done with zenithal. A lot of the deeper shadows have the same colors on them, it's just darker because the black shows through.

I’m just learning how to paint. Going with speed paints. Just wanting quick and decent looking for tabletop. Pretty happy so far, though I don’t like the way the bases look. I’ll be doing something different there.

Quick tip on the bases. Paint the side (the whole circle) black. Really tightens them up.

Finished up the priest today.

Finished my Cur and his armoury options. Still just using contrast (and some metallics). Trying to get through them as quickly as possible!
