Run out of Contrast Wyldwood but the trees have all had their first coat

Grin, going to dry brush with some lighter shades and originally was thinking of green for the vines but now I'm wondering about pinks & purples. Will have a gander in the Art Book for some inspiration

Nice! How was painting on the larger scale? These minis are going to look soooo good all painted up.

I also noticed in some of the art work there is a pinky white cyst on the trees which is sculpted on the model. That would look cool

It’s so nice painting this size, the difference is really noticeable. Also being able to take the arms off is really helpful. I’m either doing the priest or the ursus next as I want to get our party of four ready for game night Monday.

That's cool, I was thinking yellows (like pus)

I think yellow will look appropriately gross.

When you're done, I'll give you an address you can send those to.

If I don't have an airbrush I feel like those trees are going to be rough to paint

I reckon if you grab a nice big makeup brush they will be super easy. I'll be doing a video shortly on painting bigger models, and the best piece of advice that will be in it is "get a bigger brush"

That's awesome! I'm not a great painter - I specifically played Black Legion in WH40K because I just had to paint them black - but I think I can at least do a creditable job on the trees and house with some guidance.

Looking great! And how full was your Wyldwood when you started? I'm sure I'll have to buy more, but wondering how much those used.

Almost full but I knocked the pot over when I first started so some got sacrificed to the desk

Thinking about buying an airbrush... Anything i should be aware of?

Gravity fed rather than suction fed and if you can get a compressor with tank over one without then do. Keep an eye on Facebook marketplace, my first set up was £40 for the airbrush, compressor and some "paints". The air brush was replaced straight away via ebay as it had a bent needle and the paints were food ones but it gave me an entry point for around £40-60

@SWCrusader those trees will be ridiculously easy to paint. Step 1: Prime in dark brown. Step 2: As @BigDeno69 mentioned get a big makeup brush and start dry brushing with progressively lighter browns (if you prime in black you'll want to do a semi-dry brush with a dark brown first). Step 3 (optional): Apply a dark wash (agrax earthshade for example) on the entire model, then repeat step 2. Step 4: Then go in with a small brush and do some detail work on the vines, mushrooms, rocks, etc....

For added bonus you could apply a little green dry brush at the base for the trees and random areas on the bark to mimic a moss effect. Keep it subtle.

That's great stuff, I'll probably need to pick up a lot more brown paint! I kind of thought a green wash towards the end of the process might give the tree a slightly sickly looking feel

You could consolidate part of Step 2 and 3 with Wyldwood contrast paint and in the end it might end up being cheaper that way despite the cost of contrast paint (You'll probably use up most of the bottle).

@SWCrusader you could do a green wash to give it a slight green tint but it may pool in the recesses mostly and might not give the desired effect as it will layer on top of dark brown in those areas and overall may not show through the brown colors. You could certainly try it as the base and see what happens. Worst case, it doesn't really achieve the affect you want but won't ruin the paint job.

@persianknight007(Arman) @SWCrusader That's basically what I did with this guy and I was thinking of doing something similar for my trees. I was still VERY new to painting and did this as my first attempt at dry brushing. Dryad Bark base coat (then Agrax maybe?) with a Baneblade Brown dry brush. Hopefully this gives a very rough approximation of what the suggested approach would look like.

Oh, and the makeup brush is key. I didn't use one here and it shows.

Added a heavy drybrush of GW Mournfang Brown, really brought out the texture

That's awesome! How did you do the fur? That's the part that has me the most nervous with this model. I've never done fur.

Those trees look cool too. I love how a bit of paint can bring out details. I don't think I ever noticed the cysts in the pictures before.

While I normally dry brush fur I took ideas from Big Demo’s video on fur. But instead of blue as my base I used a darker grey and built up layers to white. It’s an excellent video if you haven’t watched it
