Im considering using supabase, but Im unsure of whether or not its worth it?

Hi.  What are you comparing it to?  What features are you needing for your project?

Im comparing it to firebase, which seems to be the big competitor. Since i've used firebase in the past, Im looking for a realtime database and authentication for my project. I need something versatile and well coded to use for my database.

I think the biggest thing is SQL versus NOSQL database and which works better for you.  I spent too much time on Firebase fighting to query my data and then doing so cost effectively as they charge per record access basically for Firestore.  SB is just download data cost and data at rest cost.

If you are heavily needing realtime I think alot will depend on how you were using it.  Firebase realtime is designed from the ground up and is very good.  Supabase realtime is an enhancement to Postgres and is more limited in scope, although there is a new version coming soon that can do client to client communication.

Obviously, if you have not done so, you should google "supabase firebase comparison" to get a feel.

Got a big project I’ve managed to build using sveltekit, tailwind and Supabase. Took me less than a week to build it in my spare time. Will share with you all when we’re ready to lanuch.

I’ve had a difficult time getting to work with magic link auth and Chrome launched by VSCode debugger. Is that part of your workflow?

If I could get this working properly and be able to run supabase local in gitpod with a local dev version then it'd be amazing.

My current frustration is that when developing I can't get magic auth to work unless I change the supabase Site URL in the auth settings to http://localhost:3000 ... which obviously breaks the production app

my hack atm is to get the magic link and change the URL. I have had to update that allowed referrers with localhost:3000. ATM it is using localhost:3000, but it is a nested link so i have to update the route

signin > email > right click > copy link address > paste into chrome debugger window > update url path

I've just realised in my Gitpod supabase local, when I go to the supabase studio link, there's nothing in there; no DB or tables, no auth, nothing. Which is probably why the auth link is failing to send.

What am I missing in cloning my supabase project to my local one?
