Struggling to search for notes that contain multiple words, i.e. to only find notes that contain all the words. I'm not familiar with Regex, I've tried a few options suggested on the web but with no success. Is there a simple way to achieve this?

You can do something like`word1.*word2` but it would only find it if the words occurred in that order. Or

(word1.*word2)|(word2.*word1)

would work, but you have to write every possible combination.

The problem of course is you have to write out every possible combination, but that's a limitation of regex. Maybe there's another option more suited for this?

Might be doable with a bunch of positive lookahead

.*(?=(.|\n)*word1)\b(.|\n)*(?=(.|\n)*word2)\b(.|\n)*(?=(.|\n)*word3)\b.*

this is horrendous but it will find all documents that contains all word1 word2 word3 in any order. and... it will also be criminally slower as you add more words 😄

How did I not know that!! It worked perfectly, (the 2nd time my window froze initially) narrowed down 100+ results to 1 with 3 keywords. It has made me think more about how to structure my notes more for the future. Thanks

I think it works okay ish for three words when you build the regex string elsewhere and copy paste it in the search pane, but it will most likely crash if you try to edit the regex on the fly within the search bar.

Yes, that what I did the 2nd time. I've saved it in a note and pasted it into search. 3 words is probably enough to narrow things down. But I'm now thinking of using more carefully titled individual journal notes rather than putting too much info into my daily journal and relying on search.

I find myself needing to move machines. What's the most straightforward way to import a vault from a repo clone? Do I need to make any special considerations?

We'll definitely keep a pulse on this but in summary: we're still heavily invested in the dot-based hierarchy but want to shoot for compatibility with a folder structure in the future 🙂

As transclusion is still a little bit of a work in progress (well for blocks at least, it seems to work great for entire files), what tools are there out there that can process files like this? (I don't think Pandoc can directly.) My example use-case: I'm reading through my Zettelkasten notes, and see a string of them (or parts of them) that have the making of an article. So I create a new note

project.my-new-article.md

which is almost entirely made up of content transcluded from other notes. I then want to convert that into LaTeX so I can start working on it in earnest. Any thoughts on how to achieve that?

what is the correct procedure for renaming a vault? I couldn't find anything in the docs and there doesn't seem to be a command. It looks like you can't just rename the folder because

dendron.yml

also keeps track of the vaults, and it looks like the folder name is also inside the vault's own

.dendron.cache.json

. When I first started using Dendron I only had one vault and so

vault

was a perfectly good name, but once you start adding more vaults I expect lots of users might want to rename the original one.

This nudged me finally to create a git repo also for my local vault which should have done long ago anyway. Now the command works perfectly thanks for building it.

Not that any user is ever going to, but is there anything special about git for sync? Any thought about how painful it would be to support mercurial or darcs? (Yes, I also know that betamax lost too. But look, RISC system architecture is making a comeback, so I’ve got hope again!)

It wouldn't be too difficult actually, we have a thin wrapper around git that just uses the git program. I don't think we have any plans for mercurial or darcs, but feel free to create a feature request for it. 😄 Contributions are welcome too if you can implement it yourself, we can help show where to start.
