I really don't see any reason why local logs should be a problem

if i had known that was going to be in the logs i would have created it differently

because they don't stay local

It is a co-owned problem. I am also having my team look at ways to retain hierarchy value while obfuscating for logs

some abstraction layer

or just writing a scipt to scrub them 😉

Log collection is a routine part of issue tracking

we ask you send us logs if you've encountered a bug. but that requires that you actually copy and upload the logs to us manually, either via a git issue or via direct message those logs contain filenames but that's because dendron operates on top of filenames and certain issues (eg. having multiple `.`'s in a name) could be the cause of the issue open to suggestions if you have ideas here

Because the file names are the hierarchy -- that is problematic

where the hierarchy metadata is sensitive

for example, if one is working with PII or SPII or HIPAA content

and that makes its way into file names

by way of hierarchy

I am then on the hook for chain of custody of that metadata

One can look at constructing the hierarchy in such a way that these elements are not present or are obfuscated

but that is a friction point

and leads to the question of: is the value of the hierarchy overwhelming the cose

It is a new idea -- I was not aware of the exposure until this morning

my thinking is not mature

something we could built in in the future is an option of obfuscating all file names when copying the logs. the caveat would be that it would make certain issues harder to diagnose but would work well enough in most cases

right

i am certain there is an optimization that could be identified

we are probably using the tool (or looking at using it) in ways that are niche

not trying to be a pain in the neck
