#need-help I am trying to deploy dendron-jekyll on Netlify and it is not working out. The dendron structure is coming out all weird. Any help on this please?

One advantage of relying on the file system for storage is that users retain control of their data and can back it up and share it however they please. Iโ€™m really struggling to understand why Roam uses such a bizarre storage/sync design: https://jeffchen.dev/posts/Recovering-Lost-Roam-Notes/

Completely agree. With everything being either cloud based or on someone's server who knows where, it is nice to be able to phisically see the note file and do with it as you wish.

Data loss issues are the worst. But they do have sync between devices and collaboration without any extra effort from users - like setting up git or a cloud synced folder.

yeah, sync is hard to get right, especially collaborative sync. i think it would be less of an issue if there was a snapshotting mechanism or a way of restoring to a good state

this is fascinating to me because so many of my younger students do not know what file systems are AT ALL

it's such a strange thing to teach as a millennial because that was most of my life, but many of them prefer cloud based things and don't know where things download

yeah, it's a brave new world. a whole generation raised on tablets and phones. makes me think if working with files in the future is going to seem as strange as working with punchcards is to us

Bob Martin did a fascinating lecture on the evolution of computing and he compared an iPhone to the power consumption and physical size it would have to create an equivalent with vacuum tubes. Crazy

i guess i see a link as a promise to a destination and a broken link as a promise that doesn't get fulfilled
