@User @User @User welcome to dendron 🙂 you can find a short primer and getting started resources inside the #734970079988416592 channel. in the meantime, would love to get to know y'all better via the #734966064957620294 where you can tell us a little about you and what brought you here this is me 👋 > Hey everyone, > > My name is Kevin and I'm the founder of Dendron. Note taking has been an obsession passion of mine for as long as I can remember. After having amassed a corpus of +20k markdown notes, I created Dendron because I couldn't find any other tool that could let me manage it all. Before Dendron, I worked at AWS for 5+ years. Feel free to message me on all note taking and non-note taking related topics 🙂 @User

Hi @kevins8, thanks for the welcome. Do you happen to run minikube or indeed a full k8s cluster for the purposes of building a pod (building with Jekyll)?

Hi, @User Dendron supports note references where you put
    ((ref:[[some.note]]))
in note content and the markdown preview shows content of the referenced note. There are ways to limit what's included to specific headers. See some demos here: https://www.dendron.so/notes/f1af56bb-db27-47ae-8406-61a98de6c78c.html

Can one have todo states - i.e. Now/Doing/Done/FeedbackRequired? - oops, I guess this belongs in the questions channel

@User @User you're okay. like with note taking, we're flexible with channels :) we don't have a built in notion of a todo state. i find three workflows for marking states and will switch btw them depending on the occasion. some of them are shown in this doc and is also listed out below. https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron-template/blob/master/vault/dendron.workflows.todos.md#L1:L1 1. bullet journal based - put state in checkbox
    Copy code
    - [ ]: not started
    - [w] : work in progress
    - [x] : done
    - [?] : feedback
    2. kanban based - put state in header
    Copy code
    # wip
    - [ ] foo
    # pending
    - [ ] bar
    # done
    - [ ] baz
    3. tag based
    Copy code
    - [ ] foo #wip
    - [ ] bar #feedback
    - [x] baz

@User thanks - I have 17 custom todo state (org-mode) workflows, I'll try your tag-based approach - unfortunately, this doesn't allow for auto-cycling to the next todo stage (in the workflow)

@User no, it doesn't. i'm exploring adopting the functionality in this extension to cycle through workflow states: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=PKief.markdown-checkbox that being said, i currently have some higher priority items in the queue so this probably won't happen for a while (unless someone else wants to take it on)

This reflects the org-todo state switch triggering. https://orgmode.org/manual/Workflow-states.html

@User sounds good. let me know what the gaps are. we're currently in the process of formalizing our roadmap for the rest of the year and beyond so your feedback will help us in that endeavor 🙂

@kevins8 why custom markdown preview instead of the vsc one? I'm curious in this part
  • k

    kevins8

    09/10/2020, 4:20 PM
our custom markdown preview gives us much more functionality then the vscode one -> eg. note references, checkboxes, etc. in addition, the markdown preview that dendron uses is platform agnostic (eg. it's also available on atom). this means that other editors could potentially adopt it as well

@kevins8 I think one good point mentioned in the podcast is publishing notes instead of blogs
  • i

    imalightbulb

    09/10/2020, 4:41 PM
Because notes is simplified blog in some sense and publishing notes can readers get the points directly from your notes instead of writing their notes again

there's still a lot in terms of tooling we'll need to make it work (eg. be able to stay subscribed to changes in your notes - git kind of gives you this with commit changes but there's still a lot more we can do to make this better)
