SMB high five. What are you doing for your SMB or SMB customers then? VPN to Azure and just eat\budget the egress cost back to your on prem locations?

yes, and try to design the solution where that data traffic is minimized
We do a lot of Citrix, so it's minimized in that regard.
you would have to do the math though. which gets tricky.

With SMB it would make the most sense (if going ER) is to pick a ER broker, which is what I assume you meant by ISP

I assume the ISP had to be pretty much your ER broker as if not your prob paying for another circuit in addition to the ISP?
or anyone can just pipe in a fiber run and then you can get an express route.?

yeah, there's the "Direct" model too, where you can have a connection directly to Azure
but, that's expensive AF

so the cheaper versionis already out of reach lol.

not sure what your broker charges, but unlimited 100Mbps premium is like $675/month + ISP charge
again, not sure what your needs are.
but yes, we couldn't find a way to make it work, but we also didn't have a need for it, we could just make VPN work.

yeah, i have to play with the numbers. Original ask for for 1gbps express route to match our ISP speed but that shocked

wish there were better tools to map data transfer between on prem devices that you want to move to azure and then calculate cost based on more educated guesses. I'm having a tough time that others throw their hands up and say F it ill put 5k in the budget for data transfer to azure and pray.

I have never seen a single smb customer able to justify an ER cost. Higher VPN sku during migration phases and then a scale down to low vpn gateways post… localise as much as you can in azure is my advice - egress traffic is a nasty nasty hidden cost that nabs everyone
