Yea that would be obvious to anyone. Totally different OS with alot of things added in the timeline.
Maybe use Citrix Optimizer and analyze a 2008R2 OS, export it and do the same on 2019 and export it. Then show them? Just a thought. Maybe to show them all the tid bits of the differences
n
Does it honestly matter? No competent business is going to continue running 2008 R2.

There's a huge fee associated with making 2019 perform better than 2008 R2, and "logon time" is the primary metric being pulled up
n
Not sure what anyone can really do there, though. You're at the mercy of Microsoft, and even killing nearly all services, etc. likely isn't going to get you there.
j
The real fool is whoever agreed to a monetary value being placed on making a new OS perform better than an old one

They're disputing that it's a fact, they're claiming that they should be the same. I have to show them that 2019 is slower than 2008 R2. Hence my "FFS"
n
lol, that's just dumb.
k
Show them some of GoEUCs stuff? They have great benchmarks. I'm not sure they still have something with 2008 R2 though
💯 1
I'm not sure anyone has something with 2008 R2
n
I have a 2008 R2 CD
😂 1
j
I'm building a system now with my 2008 R2 CD. Not sure what VDA it will need
k
Well, what are you waiting for spin it up in a lab 😄
VDA older than 7.15
n
See? I'm not the only weirdo with a 2008 R2 CD
😄 1
r
7.15 should work
j
I have NT4 CDs
k
7.15 works with 2008 R2?
👍 1
n
I have MetaFrame and Presentation Server CDs, too, lol
r
Yea, I believe so.
n
And the only OS I've ever paid for... Windows ME.
(yes, I feel shame)
k
ME = Mistake Edition 😄
n
yes
That is why I refuse to pay for another MS OS, haha
😄 1
l
ME was the first OS with native USB support. Was a decent gaming OS.
With a pair of voodoo 2 cards. :)
k
Duke Nukem...nice! 😄

@Nick Panaccio You must have way too much storage space at home 🙂 don't ever move.
j
Don't suppose anyone has an eval key for 2008 R2? The ones I used to use now appear dead...
n
I know I don't.
@Rob Zylowski I had to dig that up from my basement storage, haha.

Three years ago, I shredded all my MS/PC-DOS 2.x thru 6.xx floppies, all the IBM Advanced Utilities floppies (required before the advent of LastDrive, fdisk, format for HDs, etc), all my Windows/WfW 3.xx floppies, and all my Windows 95+ floppies and all my CDs/DVDs from NT 3.1 on. Everything is an ISO now, so I saw no need to keep all that stuff taking up space in my attic. I can't remember the last time I needed to install WfW 3.11 or Win95 or NT 3.51 or DOS 6.22. For some odd reason, even though it was my favorite OS, I didn't keep any of the stuff for OS/2. It was a sad, nostalgic moment destroying stuff going back to 1984. Lots of memories.

Listen, when the zombies attack and the only weapons left are CDs, you're all going to be thinking of me and my plethora of ammunition.
r
haha
n
Damn, I have keys for everything from 98 to 2019, and the only OS I have no key for is 2008 (any flavor).
j
I managed to get one - however as I am building two systems, I just tried telephone activation on the second.....and it WORKED!
n
Telephone activation, jesus
j
Still can't get any pigging Windows updates though...
w
Updates for 2008 R2?
j
Yeah, I know I'm being kinda hopeful here
w
hold on, you will get an email in a few minutes

Files are uploading. You should have access soon
🙌 1
ShareFile uploads are SSLLOOWW this morning and I have 900+Mb/s upload speed
l
Madness! All the time and effort to prove something that's pretty well documented in numerous locations. Been here and done this login metric and financial penalties previously. Not fun. You are the man to do it though. I wouldn't even bother optimising them. Simply vanilla and a local profile should illustrate the difference.

j
Yep, that's what I am going for. Agree that it's a colossal waste of time though
@Ray Davis you sure 7.15 installs on 2008 R2? It seems to be crashing quite regularly....
w
IIRC, 7.15 was when they announced no more support for R2 starting with 7.16.
Hey James, are the files available for you now? The uploads finally look like they are completed. I hope the folder names help you know the install order
j
Let me check
Downloading 👍
Got them, cheers
w
let me know if they work for you. they are what I use when I have to build a win7/08r2 vm.
r
Sorry, late response. But I looked it up to confirm (that way I am not talking out of my as!) https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xenapp-and-xendesktop/7-15-ltsr/system-requirements.html#virtual-delivery-agent-vda-for-server-os
j
I think it might need a CRL before it will install
r
I often wondered why clients push for things that are CRAZY
I want to put 28 inch rims on a Honda accord, can you tell me how much my speed odometer will be off/Gas mileage compared to 18in rims? lol
😄 1
n
If you do that, I will be forced to literally call you Florida Man...
r
HA, no way I would do that. But I seen some crazy things with cars here.
