Exclude downloads. Back Desktop up to OneDrive

If policies of your company are prohibiting OneDrive for Business usage for that purpose the good old folder redirection of the well known user profile folders to a file share is your best bet - as you mentioned before.

Folder Redirection of Desktop can cause significant issues for performance on Citrix. It might be preferable to keep it in the container if you don't have OneDrive, but then you've got the age-old issue of "lose the container, lose the desktop"

Fully agreed - the modern way of redirect well known user folders is going with OneDrive. I just wanted to point out that you cannot always do the considered right technical way as engineer - sometimes you have to deal with policies which are forbidding you using these.

As an engineer we should always challenge these kinds of policies, or else nothing will change 🙂

And another case where you have limits, too: If the company is a legal company you have unfortunately no choice because the government is making the rules and laws of what you are allowed to do for protecting the data from a lawyer client relationship.

Yea, we have many customers just now shifting to getting users migrated to OneDrive. Many still aren't there yet. But of course OneDrive is preferable if they are already on that journey, but if not, yea, we talk about pros\cons of legacy folder redirection vs keeping it in the profile at that point. Downloads yuck/throw away. Desktop is still a dumping ground that reminds of the famous youtube video of the 'website is down' that most of us have seen where towards the end he has to put a screenshot back up of the way all the junk was there to begin with. lol

onedrive is great if you aren't locking down your servers. cloud drive mapper seems to be the tool in that case.

Seconded, there are a number of situations where CDM makes more sense than the sync client
