Damn that would be awesome
b
Couldn’t you deploy, configure, then export it as ovf?
c
Which hypervisor? I believe some do support bootstrapping
m
esx
I’m not sure what happens during the deploy phase, you could probably not run the wizard, add the files and shut it down.
if we could just drop the files on there it would make redeployments quicker especially if you keep the same MAC and IPs
b
That supports exporting to an ovf so you could deploy it and then export to ovf. Just would have to update the IPs. But really adm is useful for pushing configs so you could use that to push out a standard config once you have an adc on the network
m
I want it to boot up preconfigured, it’s essentially a clone of the old one, but rebuilt.
c
honestly, for that you would probably be better off just using ADM, check in/check out licensing (or pooled if you have it), and config replication. none of that stuff should require ADM licensing
m
but then I have to build ADM in 3 DCs
I’m probably going to have to do that anyway, but was looking for a quicker fix
b
How much latency between datacenters? Pushing a config won’t take a ton of bandwidth
c
if they can't talk to each other then yeah, unfortunately you'd be looking at that for on-prem or standing up agents and using the service.
Outside of that you can probably just use the backup+restore tool, little easier than grabbing /nsconfig and feeding it back in. Is the use case just wanting to have a quick method of dropping a VPX quickly if it's blown up?
b
If you are talking about redeploying a true clone then could template the VM
m
the issue is for clients that have a compromised VPX, they only want to config off it, not the bitcoin miners etc
so dropping the nsconfig and SSL files onto a vpx and having it boot configured would be fastest
don’t even need to type in an IP or anything
if it works the way I think it should
it looks like it is looking for an nsconf file when first deployed from the ovf and if it doesn’t find it, it goes to the wizard
c
yeah it's always gonna look for an ns.conf at bootup. If you had some mechanism to mount the vmdk and copy that stuff over then it would work, but I don't think there's anything "stock" that can do that.
ahh, this is what i was thinking of
If you didn't want to use ADM, you could whip something together using that to prestage the NSIP in a staging network and restore the configs however you prefer
m
thats what i was thinking of, i thought id seen somting like this before, thanks
