I am also having thoughts on how to design the best HA solution / streetched/2-datacenter solution, but the headache is in regards of the faults Cloud Cache recently have had - that is a no go for production. It is on-premises. Any thoughts on Storage Replica or traditional Windows Cluster?

@User - storage replica only support smb 3.1.1 so you couldn't attach windows 7 machine - SOFS may work @Leee Jeffries the man to ask im sure he has done a installation with SOFS

Indeed, SOFS works great. Just make sure you read the maintenance guide on MS for SOFS. It's replicating storage in the background so reboots and things have a few considerations to make sure everything stays consistent. Bonuses are seamless failover and distributed iops for performance.

Of cause - SOFS. That seems as a good solution, now that CCC is not working too well. @Leee Jeffries There is no RPO on the DR site, and the solution is primarily required to be able to ensure HA in any kind of scenario where the traditional file server would break down, and to ensure that local system drive would to have all the users data kept then.

Understood SOFS is your own option other than 3rd party block level replication tools.

Exactly. I would have loved to use CCC, but the lag of control of configuration and the black screen at logon is the main headaches.

Indeed. I also experienced while having two SMB servers, that if no.1 was turned off, the traffic kept going to towards no.2. Existing and new user sessions worked great, but when I powered up no.1 again, the traffic only kept going on towards no.2 until it had nothing more to do and then the traffic started going towards no.1 again 😮

I don't think it'll be possible without a server agent to be honest. It would help manageability.

I have had the same thoughts in relation to not having anything else than the agent on each individual servers 😕
