It's definitely not using DFS replication. I think it's just front ending the file share, with manual failover. I'm going to speak to them tomorrow about building new servers to host the FSLogix stuff. I'm not terribly familiar with SOFS, but I'm not sure that we'd need both nodes online at the same time?

Potentially not but it does depend on what you're users are doing (profiles , O365 etc) and which apps but in your scenario it's more backend storage iops. If you have enough you should be fine with what you have or a failover cluster. Just make sure you can monitor the load and performance on whatever storage you are given.

We're doing both Profiles and O365, on the same share, too.
