If you are in a call with ms support regarding fslogix Search Roaming issues, they will advise you to install it via Server Manager...
m
Ok cool, thanks!
m
At least, this was the case for me.
m
You got a phone call! 😲
m
Ok, Teams Meeting 😉

I never install the Search role, I just configure the service to Auto startup up and start the service

Now need to install, just enable & start Service BEFORE Office is installed.

... or repair your office installation

that's useful info. just tweaked my MDT order accordingly. Thanks Eric!

I have been installing the feature on 2016 (before Office), so I must have misinterpreted a blog somewhere.🤦‍♂️
p
I would be to surprised that support would tell you to install search features on 2016. You only enable the service https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/2c7beb5b-0d8e-4067-9a68-b284e01f7db8/blog-fslogix-search-index-considerations-and-troubleshooting?forum=FSLogix Only on 2012 - do you install the role

The bottom half of that is interesting (James K's hotpants aside......). So is there any reason having the role present on 2016 would be detrimental? In a scenario where the role has been installed (evidently unnecessarily) should we look to remove the role? Or no harm leaving in place for existing images?
p
If it working then leave it, to remove it you would need to repair office and make sure the user search edb files are working.

I've spoken to Microsoft/FSLogix who advise they have had "many" cases where the role had to be installed and for consistency across the board. The RDSH boxes that didn't have the service, seem to be the ones which have had issues. Although restricting the index as per the KB, has also prevented corruption in the search db.

Thx Mark, will add this step to my Automation Framework 1909 and put script on Github
