Because something F'd up.
a
haha any ideas where to look?
r
C:\programdata\fslogix\logs\
j
I would make sure the session is actually fully logged off. If there is even one process owned by the user then the session will still remain active. Check logs and you will see if there are any locks.
r
they are very detailed. if it was the profile log, check hte profiles directory. it should tell you something... like it didn't finish the logoff cycle or whatnot
yes, also orphaned sessions can bork it up
a
already checked the logs and the logoff is successful, so fslogix thinks its all ok
r
chalk it up to a fluke then.
a
wish i could, it happens all the time. rebooting the xenapp box is the only way to free up the vhd
r
you 100% sure there isn't an orphaned session?
sort by session ID.. you'll see 3 processes owned by SYSTEM... csrss.exe, loginui.exe, winlogon.exe
a
not 100%, ill check and get back to ya
l
Are you using CloudCache?
a
all user processes are gone. im not using cloud cache. its a system process that has the vhd file open
j
which process? Is the PID a higher number than most of the normal System processes?
a
its the system process itself pid=4
r
sort by session ID, a lot of the time it's just the user's session that really didn't logoff
oh... nm... haha
j
I would review antivirus then. ActiveScan or another feature preventing hardware changes
a
yeh thats my feeling now as well. its sophos on the box, i havent put any exclusions there so will try that route and let yous know if that fixes it
l
Defo AV by the sounds of it.
a
so i got rid of the AV and still the issue persists. i can see that the vhd is mounted in diskmgmt from my admin session.
l
What's the OS?
Is defender kicking in?
a
2012 no defender
j
version of fslogix?
l
Interesting... Time to look at the FSL logs and see what's happening at the point of logoff.
What is the AV product out of interest?
a
v2.9.7117.27413
sophos, its gone now tho
l
Is it really gone though? Lol Sophos can be seriously problematic to remove in my experience. Have you tried their removal tool?
a
i know what you mean... its really gone though
😀
l
If it's not AV something else is locking the VHD. Does the fileserver scan the vhdx files? It may be worth adding an exclusion there. Process explorer would let you know if it was bring locked at that end.
a
no av on the filer either...
l
Process explorer and logs it is. Feel free to wing it over if you need a hand.
a
thanks man appreciate the help. the logs arent giving me anything though.
l
No worries. Process Explorer on file server and host and see what's holding the files it is then. If may not (more than likely isn't) an FSLogix issue but I've seen stranger things.
a
will do thanks
so i found what the problem was... citrix upm. i had been using citrix wem to control it. i had disabled upm from within citrix wem but there must have been something conflicting there as i could see it all over the place when running procmon. removing upm solved the problem straight away.
n
if using fslogix, shouldnt your upm service be stopped and disabled?
a
You could technically support different users with either a Profile Container or UPM on the same box
l
Cool, as @Aaron Parker says, you could you both but you'd need to add FSL user in the exclusion group for upm and upm users in the exclusion group for FSL. Well done on working it out. Thanks for the feedback.
a
I heard you need upm on the xenapp box to get stats within director even if you are not using it, thats why i left it on there and disabled it (or so i thought). Thanks anyway!

l
I think that is true, the service needed to be enable but in policy you can mark upm as disabled. I'd need to check my lab to be sure.

d
Yes we leave service running for Director stats but disable UPM in GPO admx.
