Nope. Gotta compact after the fact.
j
That's what I thought.
Thanks!
Actually I am thinking about this wrong. The compact will shrink the actual size of the VHDX but files I delete will free up space inside the VHDX file. Won't change the size.
Need more caffeine today lol.

There’s a nice tool out there: http://www.citrixirc.com/?p=1052
j
Yep that changes the size/reduces it. I'm more thinking about the contents inside.
Deleting contents inside will clean up space, but not reduce the size.
n
Yep. Which is comically... not very useful.
j
Yes and no. The VHDX will remain the same size, but space in it will be freed up. Depends on wha the goal is.
d
For sanitizing the data inside of the container I think Aaron did some scripts
j
Yep. I confused myself this morning. Overthinking something again.
n
I get that, but you can delete anything and everything to your heart's content and it'll never matter unless you compact that disk.
j
Agreed. I'm more focused on space inside the disk. Not the overall size right now.
To clarify reclaim size of the actual VHDX file is offline/compact operation. Reclaiming space within the VHDX file/freeing up usable space is just a user deleting files for example.
d
Deleting files inside the container should free up the space and make it available for new profile data - for example deleting cached copies of OneDrive files. This space should become availabe inside of the container again, at least that’s my understanding.
j
Yep agreed

Just don't tell supy your doing this. As I learned they will stop immediately and not help you.
