I could be wrong but doesn't it play a role in director?
w
https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/install-configure/install-command.html Excluding Citrix Profile Management from the installation (/exclude "Citrix User Profile Manager") affects monitoring and troubleshooting of VDAs with Citrix Director. On the User details and EndPoint pages, the Personalization panel and the Logon Duration panel fail. On the Dashboard and Trends pages, the Average Logon Duration panel displays data only for machines that have Profile Management installed. Even if you are using a third-party user profile management solution, Citrix recommends that you install and run the Citrix Profile Management Service. Enabling the Citrix Profile Management Service is not required.

Ok nice find. Good to know
How the heck did you find that in that section. Lol
w
I just have a way of remembering obscure stuff that I read. I knew I had read it somewhere.
r
Lol good memory. Especially in the cli install section.

Never disable the service because of director monitoring but you should disable UPM itself either within the ini file or better with GPO or WEM.

I agree with @Dennis. I have also seen that is necessary to disable the Search Index Roaming feature for Outlook, if you are using FSLogix:
d
Yes, @Kasper Johansen, I forgot to mention this, good one!
k
You can't remember everything, that's one of the reasons why I love this Slack channel 😄
..other clever people remember stuff for me 😄

True
U shouldn't need to disable search roam im upm if its not enabled?
n
On the same theme, do you also need that service for third-party monitoring tools that provide logon time figures like ControlUp?
k
It's a funny thing...I have seen that it actually is necessary even though UPM is disabled the search index roaming feature is still enabled. If you are using FSlogix Search Roaming, you will get flooded with errors in the logs
