Use App Masking to mask the installer or the Teams folder in LocalAppData?
n
Now that's out of the box thinking. I'm going to give that a try!
It only seems to work if I hardcode the full path. I don't seem to be able to wildcard the path or file itself.
Correction, can't wildcard C:\*,* but can C:\Users\. Still need to use the full filename, though. Looks like it's dynamic, so I have no way of knowing them all.
n
You can only use wildcards “*” for replacement of a folder path. I.e. c:\users\**\appdata
n
Yeah, just noticed that.
I guess I could check the Teams download each month to validate that the filename hasn't changed.
n
Masking the Teams folder then, that will stop it installing

Or the Update.exe
n
AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams ?
n
Yeah think that’s it
n
Let me give that a try.
n
It might well error but will stop it installing I’d say
n
That's fine with m,e
Of course I forget to turn off my AppLocker policy, lol. Gotta disable that GPO and bounce these VDAs. Though I guess AL isn't an awful solution if I need to go that route.
n
Is the installer a different name each time or is the exe the same name?
n
Looks like it's the same link included in all of my Teams-related e-mails, but I'm not entirely sure that's the case.
n
It’s a neat trick
But you need to know the exe name, but can be in any folder
n
That's pretty clever. Yeah, the name is an issue for me. Gonna try hiding the Teams folders to see if that does it. If so, I'm good with that. This is just to prevent users who don't follow directions... which could very well be damn near everyone.
Looks like I've got two installers - one when you open Teams in IE and click on the download desktop app link (Teams_windows_x64.exe), and one where you click on an e-mail to open Teams from, say, a missed message (Teams_windows_x64_s_RandomNumbers-3-0_.exe).
n
I’ve also used the good old Software Restriction Policies, just create a deny rule
n
Hiding AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams did the trick. The install error'd out, but this is a perfect temporary solution. Thank you!

Great trick. Adding this to my notes. Thank you
