Not at my customers. I see to much trouble with dsl light connections.

DSL Light? What do you mean?
d
maybe only a german topic. but here there are more and more connections where you only get an encapsulated IPv4. The connection is actually IPv6 and therefore these connections have big problems with the MTU size.

Like Manuel mentioned, we have a lot of trouble with EDT in Germany. Very frustrating, it has some advantages, it is definitely faster and the user experience is better. But it's difficult to disable it for certain users.

My last 2 places I setup EDT, and at first it seemed ok. But when latency was introduced in the ICA session it was actually was worse the standard TCP connection. I spent months troubleshooting. I used all the blogs and advice I could find. Citrix just kept saying something is fragmenting the packets. I had MTU setting set on the VDA, I adjusted the Default ICA file on SF to match. I ended up abandoned it. But it was something environmental for me and I couldn't figure it out. Here are some good links that may help you. Its Zipped with 7z
b
OK, that might explain why some of my remote PC users are complaining of lag. Folks who are still on TCP have no issues.
Again, @Ray Davis thanks for the doc.

Anytime man. I have a lot of thins I keep. The only thing I struggle with is Global builds and making it all HA/DR/AA Hurts my brain.
r
I have since turned it off in all my environments. Nothing but problems and poor connections.

We had issues with EDT in earlier builds of NetScaler, but I asked this very question to Citrix yesterday in our monthly meeting, and they now say everything has been sorted in newer NS builds (12.56+ comes to mind, but don't quote me on that). We're upgrading to 13.1 soon, and I'll be enabling Adaptive Transport when we move to the next major LTSR.
With all of the newest clients supporting MTU discovery (CWA for Mac 2108+), that was big for us - especially Mac users, where all of our issues were coming from.

Monthly meeting with Citrix? You must be a HUGE customer to get that kinda facetime.
n
I don't think we're that big, to be honest, but I have nothing to gauge it against. We do own a lot of Citrix stuff, but we're non-profit healthcare.
d
EDT is great ig it works and the network is under your control. As mentioned it's not that reliable yet under certain network conditions.
b
Yeah, I think it is time to go back to old reliable. TCP for now.
h
you dont have to be huge. just pay for a tam.
my experience with edt is that it works well enough on reliable networks. But I have a horror story about an MPLS connection with limited bandwidth. A bunch of users get disconnected at once because of a blip and then edt creates a storm or reconnection attempt traffic and saturates the connection. It just keeps trying and ddos itself. IMO its not worthy of default protocol status.
listening to networking guys try to troubleshoot udp / edt traffic might be a special form of torture in hell...
Another annoyance is that setting mtu for dtls traffic is not mature in netscaler like it is for tcp traffic via tcp profiles. you have to run undocumented commands that dont persist beyond a reboot so you have to add them to rc.netscaler and that can cause problems down the road with firmware upgrades.

Couldn't have said it better. It's turned off everywhere. We had nothing but problems. We are a MSP, so each customer has it's own environment, datacenter and internet connection. It worked nowhere on so many different environments. (Germany)

Germany seems to be a common theme when talking about issues with EDT.

Or Germany is just very present in this Slack Team 😄
n
That, too. We've got people from all corners of the globe here.
Manuel mentioned DSL yesterday, and I haven't heard that term in over a decade, haha
m
The other problem here are internet connections via tv cable, that aren't real ipv4 connections, which is similiar to the dsl light problem, I think.
d
Yep Marco. Same problem 😓
