umm citrix cloud?? host your vm's on azure, google, aws.....pretty limitless
k
Thanks That is what I want to look into. The most simple and feasible solutions. Need some input or reading material on them.
l
To be honest, the reading material may be a little too much as there are so many permutations and options it'll take you forever and you'll still be confused.
As an overview though, You have Citrix Cloud, Nutanix Frame, Windows Virtual Desktop, Amazon Workspaces.
All of these solution will allow you to spin up your virtual desktops in the cloud, oh and VMWare Workspace too.
What specifically are your requirements and limitations?
k
Thanks again Leee We don't really have any yet, other than we may have some acquisitions in the US and India. Our solution for our current India userbase is them hitting our DC here in UK, so want to make their user experience better. So Citrix Cloud is defo on my list, others mentioned are Nutanix Robo, XIcloud and Azure/AWS Want to get info on what is out there and then which is most simple to deploy and just pros and cons We won't become that big, it's more of a research project to see what options we have out there.
l
So a big driver in your considerations I see is mainly - where are your user resources stored? File Shares, Application backends etc....
k
Yup, I'd say exactly that. And if we were to get an acquisition tomorrow, we wouldn't be able to get another 50/100 people on current hardware, so what option would let us get these bases on other side of world up in say a week etc
l
I think I'd start with WVD for now. You will be able to route across to your DC's using the Azure backbone. Of course if you already have Citrix you can use it but use the Azure backbone as the transport link.
The process for this would be to create a VPN from a UK Azure location to your DC, then standup a netscales in the closest location to Inda and provision cloud based instances within that DataCenter for users.
The actual brokering and web side of things would come across the link as would application data etc..... but the connection from local office to session server would be quick as they would all be local to india
this would of course would be scalable also.
k
Sure will look into that. Can the same be done with our current setup, with a mixture of on prem and then some on the cloud? Citrix cloud supports a mixed cloud and on prem setup I believe?
l
You can do it with everything you have now. Except PVS. That is not supported in cloud environments officially.
k
Sounds good. Will start reading!

Honestly, my suggestion is to work with a partner/consultant to help you develop your cloud strategies. Both from a business and technical angle. While there is plethora of information on the web it not exactly the easiest to navigate and understand without some prior experience.
l
Agree with Joe here, there are so many options available. Its confusing, also there is more to cloud than just desktops.
