FSLogix or Online mode ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

FSLogix is now free dependent on licensing. Jump on it!
g
Customer is running ivanti. Any best practice for ivanti?
l
@Phil Lawson jump on it!
g
What licensing is required for fslogix?
Online mode, outlook consumes 10% of cpu per session so only 10 users per server. We need more users per server.
Also, it impacts other applications running.
r
Do you have a office 365, or rds licensing? U have fslogix then
g
Ok, cool
Can you point to a guide to implement fslogix?
Particularly with best practices for outlook
p
Thereโ€™s no real point running Fslogix and ivanti side by side as ivanti provides the same functionality (another driver (FSL) will take additional resource). Iโ€™ll see if I can get some best practice. Essentially itโ€™s down to the likely mailbox cache size and the storage available.

storage is storage, whether Outlook lives in FSL or a OST somewhere. online mode will suck, trust me unless you are onprem, but with 365 you will kill your pipe. you can setup a GPO to limit the amount of data that is synced online, like 3 or 6 months. lastly if youre that concerned about storage then OWA will solve that fear
l
Sounds like it may be best for you to read those articles and the come back after with questions on those.
j
Ivanti Environment Manager and Environment Manager Policy has Outlook containers. So since you are using Ivanti may want to look at that first.
c
Or the best option is FSlogix and here is how you combine it with workspace control : https://workspace-guru.com/2017/12/04/use-fslogix-office-365-containers-use-ivanti-res-one-workspace/

Nice

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. I really appreciate it. Customer has onprem exchange. They are running outlook in online mode atm. Do you think caching helps here?
n
with onprem exchange and online mode nothing else is needed here. i wouldnt bother with any type of caching solution. i did onprem and online mode for years with my vdi catalogs, never an issue for hundreds of issues. i just had to make sure exchange was always top notch
j
Yep second that for on prem unless you are looking at migrating to exchange online soon.
g
Thanks Nick and Jarian. Each outlook session consumes 10% so max 10 users on xenapp server. Its impacting all other apps on the server. How can we improve the performance here. Why outlook consumes 10% per session?
d
Which version of windows, outlook, 32/64 bit? Any add-ins etc.?
g
2012 r2, outlook 2010, exchange 2013
c
Just kidding

Often high cpu for outlook is due to a plug-in or virus scanner. You could check for that.

@Chris Twiest do you suggest any tools to troubleshoot the performance issue in this case?
