You’re changing versions so better off creating new instead of trying to convert. Redirect what you can like my documents, etc. but app settings may have to be redone.

its all bout needs but usually i'll go new and have a script that pulls/migrates only whats needed from the old 2008r2 profile share into the new. if its reg keys you can start exporting those to files to be imported to the new profile in advance so its easy to bring those as well rather than dealing with mounting dat files.

USMT?

Crap In = crap out - profile migrations are nasty, find what’s important and automate the move of those specifics - from UPM it’s easy as the data is typically structured nicely

NEVER migrate profile. Start from scratch. Tools like WEM can help you migrate some settings or files from the old profiles. Or script it with powershell. FSLogix has still some problems but it’s getting better and is ready for the future.

There are scripts out there to create the fslogix container for you and populate with files such as outlook signatures and favorites, but for the rest of it like the registry hive data, you'll have to recreate it. I did a migration from UPM where we just pulled the needed files and pre built the fslogix containers so they were ready to go on login. You don't want to be doing redirection and fslogix as you'll get better speeds having everything in the vhd, just make sure you have a good backup strategy.
