Not sure why I can't reply to the original question but here's my POV. I don't believe there is a "best balance" that works for all. As Andrew pointed out, requirements differ and what's working for him, may not work for you because you don't require full capture of everything. This is one of those, you need to set out what your requirements are and do the testing to find which mix of products work best for you.
