I was told the same from our (danish) Citrix distributor
This is a statement in the feature-matrix doc:
d
I'm checking with Citrix Sale Eng to clarify this. PVS is not available for STD (ex ADV) licenses, but looks still included in (ADV and PRE - ex ENT/PLT)
Names are a mess. They have to switch completely...
k
I agree
It' so confusing, especielly when working with older versions and new license files
d
Customer was ringing license support for 2020 budget and was told to purchase PVS licenses as they has been removed from Virtual Apps ADV since last Monday...
k
I was told that you can no longer buy PVS licenses, you can only get PVS via CVAD licenses
Citrix Licensing, always a mess 😄
j
That seems pretty brutal if that’s actually happening and not a stuff up.... going to be some pissed off customers
k
It has happened. I had to double check with the distributor who told me I needed other licenses in an offer where the customer wanted PVS. We had to go with either Virtual Apps Premium or CVAD Advanced
d
Worse of all, things like this are not made public/clarified with a proper communication.
and it applies to existing customers too. As James wrote, this will be very disappointing if correct.
j
I misread this initial post - this has been like this for a long time? Even back in XenApp enterprise, PVS wasn’t an entitlement, you had to buy xendesktop enterprise or xenapp platinum

And even buying the pvs licence didn’t cover you for xenapp workloads (read the fine print!) believe it or not
j
Yep PVS was only in XA Platinum
Been that way for a while

@dp007 look at the screenshot I posted ealier in this thread
It's for VMHostedApps only
d
Do you mean the "*Citrix Virtual Apps Advanced is available for VMHosted applications instances running on a desktop operating system only." statement?
k
I had it verified at our distributor. PVS IS available with Citrix Virtual Apps Advanced, but only when using VMHostedApps feature
You can use PVS to deliver images where you are ONLY using VMHostedApps
At least that's what they told me
d
Thanks! Citrix needs to write it better. Very confusing message.
k
Agreed. That's why I was happy with the distributor verifying it BEFORE I send an offer to a customer
If it means anything, MCS is available with all license types
u
PVS was never offered for anything else than Platinum in the old XenApp licensing mode. You could have PVS in Enterprise if you owned XenDesktop but not XenApp and I found out this the hard way in 2017. So yeah... it's like that for a lot of time.

There is no change.. just a lot of confusion with the old names (which I get) . The CVA Adv license will allow PVS for CVA to be used in a VMHosted app scenario with an OS Desktop. the other licenses (CVA Premium or CVAD ADv/Premium) allow for CVA hosts to be streamed. Same goes for PVS for virtual desktops, to be used for virtual desktops with a Citrix workload. There is one exception, the CVAD standard can’t be used to stream to physical desktops. If you go completely out of the CVAD boundary you would need a PVS datacenter license. hope this clarifies it a bit, had this thread internally also a few weeks back, from a different angle, so thought I copy it here.

Thanks!! Citrix should rephrase "*Citrix Virtual Apps Advanced is available for VMHosted applications instances running on a desktop operating system only." statement making it clearer

I forward the suggestion
