Just install the Machine Installer for both and remove the auto-starts

Or be lazy and use the evergreen script https://www.deyda.net/index.php/en/evergreen-script/

Thanks for replies. I will definitely look at the evergreen script at some stage. Looks great. For now, I have tried running the following command β€œmsiexec /i <Path_to_msi> /l*v <install_logfile> ALLUSER=1 ALLUSERS=1” but that generates an error. Am I missing something? Works fine when I double click instaler
j
I use msiexec /i "path to msi" ALLUSER=1 ALLUSERS=1 and that works fine (for Teams)
g
Funnily enough it worked for me with 1.3.013565 but not 1.4
So I ended up trying with Evergreen and that worked well. I will definitely show this to the wider team. I do have a feeling though that teams does still autostart when I log into desktop. To me it seemed the script disabled that functionality?
j
Delete the HKLM Run entry for Teams and add a conditional GPP that only creates an HKCU Run entry for it once the Cache folder exists
d
You can also kill the autostart with the evergreen script. comment out line 3127 for this. In the next release I have made a button for it

Or download the new evergreen script version πŸ™‚ i added the button

Thanks guys I really appreciate your help. I hope you don’t mind me asking some more questions as it is a bit of a steep learning curve. If Teams is installed in this manner does it still effect your fslogix profile size? I did not notice an increase immediately
d
User based install -> data in appdata/roaming and appdata/local Machine based install -> data in appdata/roaming (~100mb) and in program files (x86)/Microsoft/teams (the Data from appdata/local) (>400mb)

Yes, there will about 4GB of stuff cached into your profile at first run (and then deleted) unless you exclude the CacheStorage folder from Teams, whether you use Machine or User Installer. Because FSLogix never shrinks, this will consume the space regardless

Thanks @James Rankin. There is a couple of things I am noticing. I do not notice an increase in my FSlogix profile size when launching teams. I also see no redirects to the local_profile folder. For example the Cachestorage folder is not there. Below is the teams related config in redirections.xml This was already done by a colleague. The GPO appears to be configured correctly. <Exclude Copy=β€œ0”>AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Current\Locales</Exclude> <Exclude Copy=β€œ0">AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Packages\SquirrelTemp</Exclude> <Exclude Copy=β€œ0”>AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\current\resources\locales</Exclude> <Exclude Copy=β€œ0">AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams\Service Worker\CacheStorage</Exclude> <Exclude Copy=β€œ0”>AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams\Application Cache</Exclude> <Exclude Copy=β€œ0">AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams\Cache</Exclude> <Exclude Copy=β€œ0”>AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Teams\Logs</Exclude> <Exclude Copy=β€œ0">AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams\media-stack</Exclude> <Exclude Copy=β€œ0”>AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams\meeting-addin\Cache</Exclude>
j
OK, so you've already excluded the "mega" folder. However you should see a local_username folder, without that FSLogix is not working.
g
Thanks @James Rankin Yes I do see that folder and I can confirm the β€œmega” folder is under the local_username folder. However, as a test I am trying to include my Downloads folder. Currently I am seeing that under both profile folders. I have made a change to the redirections file to include it <Exclude Copy=β€œ1">Downloads</Exclude>. The FRXProfileFolderRedirection ExcludeCommonFolders = β€œ0”
j
Is it redirected using Folder Redirection? FSLogix will ignore it if it is
g
Sorry James, Sent the previous message before I was finished typing. I have not made changes to CommonFolders nor do I use any other means of folder redirection
j
I use <Exclude Copy="0">Downloads</Exclude>
Not sure what the Copy does but does it work if you change it to 0?
g
That was the original setting and it seemed not. I am using the redirection file that is in place. I assume it is the default and all the entries are set to exclude 0. As I understand this ensures everything is on base and gets deleted at logoff. I basically try to to understand what I would need to do so the contents of the download folder follow user around between sessions. Hope I am making sense
