Thats just a windows explorer setting under folder and search options open file explorer to .... you can set it to this PC or to Quick access. I normally set it to open to this pc in my default user profile but there is a reg key thats set it i dont think it can be set via gpo
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced LaunchTo DWORD 1 = This PC 2 = Quick access

Sweet - I'll give it a go. I assume we can do group policy to set, too, eh?
j
Group Policy Preferences should do it, although there's probably a GPO now

when i tried looking for it in GPP folder options and under file explorer in admin templates in computer/user configuration i couldn't find it so don't think u can use group policy for it i even searched the group policy reference excel doc and a group policy search site i use and had a google and nothing for it hence the reg key

Update. The LaunchTo is handy to know about, but I think we're still looking for something else. If I open Notepad and save a file to C:\Temp\one.txt, close Notepad, open Notepad and go to save again, I'm already in C:\Temp\, not This PC or Quick Access. Users of our custom .NET app say they rarely go back to their last directory and instead start at This PC in the save as file browser each time when on Server 2016.
