I either use a datastore that is connected to both vCenters or you could do a V2V migration using the VMware migration tool.

I should add, this is across physical data centers so no shared storage available. I think the V2V (VMware Converter) does the same thing as their OVFTOOL behind the scenes, but I'll double check.

I would use the Cross vCenter Fling: https://flings.vmware.com/cross-vcenter-workload-migration-utility You can copy the VM to the other DC with this tool. Since vSphere 7 it is build in. Used it with a large backend cluster migration at a customer, works really well
