No not by default, there's a reg key to enable that feature if you want it, it escapes me at thr moment but I'll get it for you later.
c
Thank you. So, from the VDI, it cant see local PC drives and on the VDI, any other citrix application cant see the drives.
d
If you launch a citrix session (parent) then another session inside that child, the drive mappings from the parent session wont map to the child session by default. if you want that to occur you'll need to create and set the NativeDriveMapping Reg to True in HKLM\software\wow6432Node\Citrix\ICA client\Engine\Configuration\Advanced\Modules\ClientDrive.
sorry it took a while to respond, had a thunder storm last night fry my router, spent the morning getting a new one.
c
If we use this reg key, does it also enable drives between Citrix vdi and local machine?
d
No if you are purely talking about logging onto a VDI from a laptop that has a standard Citrix Receiver or Workspace app then normal policy should apply at that point, my comment is only around if you launch a desktop from a laptop for instance then within the VDI launch another app or desktop into another citrix session.

@Dale Scriven When I try to change the value to TRUE, it says, cannot edit NativeDriveMapping: Error writing the values new contents. Should I change this value in any ini file and it populates here automatically?
d
You changing this directly on a vdi, assume you have admin rights on it and opening regedit elevated? I tried it again this afternoon and it does work.

I have a vague recollection that this is because explorer.exe is not running and is needed to trigger application of the gp settings. I had exactly this issue with published IE. After some digging this blog post sums it up. https://conetrix.com/blog/how-to-make-group-policy-work-with-citrix-published-applications

@Dale Scriven I owe you big time. Issue has been resolved. Just wanted to make sure, this registry change will not allow user's local device drives ( C and D) to the citrix VDI session. This will only enable/make the drives visible from VDI to the application that user opens in that VDI. Is this correct?
d
Yep thats correct, as the reg key is applied on the VDI's workspace app it won't change the client drive passthrough from a laptop for instance to the parent vdi session.
c
Thanks a ton!! just verified that from user's VDI now. In VDI file explorer, he cant see laptop drives. Application works as expected from the VDI.
