Is there a way to configure location services for the browser to use their local location?
j
I mean local as in where the connecting client is....the actual browser is running in a virtual desktop at a remote location
s
Yeah, I know. I think browsers have a location service that determines where they are. I'm just spit-balling here, but if you can personalize that, then they might get results based on their geo and not the OS
Just asked my buddy at Google and he says that it uses the IP to get location. So I was wrong.
j
So maybe good old-fashioned IP spoofing might be worth a try
s
Update us. I'd be interested to see if/how you get it to work. With the adoption of Cloud platforms, I'm sure this will come up a lot

sending the traffic through a proxy in India maybe?

If they are using Google as the homepage, they can change their search location to another location using “Advanced” or similar at the bottom of the page. If you’re using FSLogix profiles that setting will stick - not ideal but at least they can eat locally and not somewhere 1000’s of miles away
j
Had looked at that and it might well do in the absence of anything else.....was hoping for something independent of the search engine, but as you say might be the only option 🙂
Would be nice to be able to preset that in some way, and not involving signing in
s
maybe it's in the registry somewhere
n
It’s a cookie somewhere I believe, I’ve quickly looked before on another project, but gave up and told the users to change themselves as I had better things to do - I call it self service

They other thing I’ve done before is put them through a local proxy, but then the browsing experience suffered
Laptops anyone?

Someone needs to write a virtual GPS that works under RDSH https://www.inteligentcomp.com/2012/10/virtual-location.html

Had this use case in a previous job. We used a proxy based in India.

Forward proxy back in India?

Menlo did this via a NAT gateway (something covered for techtarget) https://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/opinion/How-does-Menlo-Securitys-remote-browser-compare-in-an-ever-more-crowded-space so I guess recreating similar or using a browser service which has done it for you like Menlo might be worth exploring?

@Nathan Shaw Used a http proxy in IE/FF/Chrome hosted in users location, in that case, would be India
