Odd quirk is that if you run your taskbar on the top like a Mac, News and Interests never shows up.
n
That is odd.
I'm also noticing that I cannot see this policy in the 20H2 admx files.
I do see it on my home 21H1 box, so it has to be somewhere.
Okay, it's in the 21H1 templates: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/103124. Here's hoping that it actually works on 1909+.

@James Rankin was enthusiastic about this on twitter today 🙂
n
Funny enough, I set a reminder to check that the stupid taskbar wasn't added after this last CU before I saw him post it on Twitter. I'd have had the same reaction...

I can confirm Nick's fix works

Do you remember the lovely Microsoft scrolling news ticker tape bar.... an argument for capital punishment if ever there was one
n
I actually don't think I was ever hit with that one
I just Google'd it... that's somehow worse.

When I was a young thruster in IT support, I had Active Desktop fully enabled and loops of various movie clips such as the pod racing from the Phantom Menace constantly running

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/group-configuration-news-and-interests-on-the-windows-taskbar/ba-p/2281005?s=09 Update 2021.05.07:  To access the policy for news and interests on the taskbar, on a device that has installed the April 2021 Cumulative Update Preview (or May 2021 quality update), navigate to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions and locate the file called Feeds.admx. For your convenience, we have also published an updated version of the Administrative Templates (.admx) for Windows 10, version 20H2 to the Microsoft Download Center.

Now it's history and my desktops are back to looking clean and tidy

Who at Microsoft is making the decisions that allow this type of nonsense to ship? Just when I thought 20H2 was step in the right direction towards less bloat, we get this. 🤡

I don't think it has any business being enabled by default in a Pro/Enterprise OS. My guess is they get ad revenue for any new "clicks" they can generate.
n
That’s precisely why I went to check for myself - I assumed it might be disabled by default in Enterprise.

I'm glad you posted it Nick. It's stuff like that I can't always keep up on until it shows up on the system and users start asking about it.
