No SCCM channel I know of here, but is that a required or available install? If it’s the latter then yes they will need to actively look in the Software Center for it. If you want to force the upgrade then it should be a required install

Good point I guess it's not quite required as of yet and I'd advise against our users installing it on our W7 machines as they're old and hopefully will eventually all be replaced within the next 3-6 months(very slow deployment process here) , however autodiscover no longer works on Proplus on both W7 and W10 devices(no more local exchange servers) ADSI points to outlook.com* and because they can't be arsed to fix the autodiscover to point to the cloud directly still tries to contact local CAS1.mydomain. , so the only real need for O365 is the direct connection if a profile were to become corrupt and if Azure somehow prevent connectivity on office proplus in the next 6 months. I'll advise them on the required installation concept they even rolled out LAPS as an available install lol, LAPS as you likely know is something that changes a local admin password to a unique one. I'm also trying to work on a solution that can fix local config manager clients.

It sounds like they've turned the notifications off in the Users Experience tab. There isn't an SCCM channel, but there is #CT7PD20BE. However, there is a discord server that has a bunch of MVPs and other clever people who are always happy to help. https://discord.gg/winadmins

Unfortunately those settings only come into play when the installation is started i.e. downloading, installing, finished. If the install is set to “available” the users actively have to go looking in the SC. Same goes with Intune and the Company Portal. Amazing how LAPS isn’t a “required” install 🤣
t
I know it's so bad right.
r
@Nathan Sperry are you sure about that? That's not my experience. Those settings for notifications are valid for available vs. required, and for users vs. computers. "Show all notifications" will show a "You have new software available" notification. Those notifications should pop up when the application is available. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/apps/deploy-use/deploy-applications#bkmk_deploy-ux

Actually you might be right there, they get a toast notification but think it disappears fairly quickly, so easy to miss. I don’t use MEMCM as much these days as I used more MEM Intune now. Still stand by what I said, if you need upgrade a critical piece of software the it should be required. We’ve also used PSAppDeployToolkit with required installs so users can defer the install x number of times till it’s forced.

Oh, I agree. It does go away quickly. And, that type of application should absolutely be required. Yeah, PSADT is used for all our apps, no matter how complex/simple. The logging alone is invaluable, and provides consistency.

Yeah I've heard they're looking at intune here too as it's good for remote users too! Will take the above into account when I ask them about how we deliver apps, I believe LAPS is still in the testing stage and perhaps they've rolled it out to IT staff only, though I suspect the entire estate has it in their software center,
They're being funny about why BAU desktop teams should not have access to the LAPS portal lol as if it's some Secret squirrel now, anyway just gave them 5 reason I mean who the hells going to want to rely on 1 or 2 people to get the new local admin password from in a busy hospital- trustdomain, network card driver issues, roaming profile service not functioning, okb disc space issues, cached credential user is not around to login, MALWARE so best to keep it offline lol,

Sounds fun (not)
