The last SSU is installed?
a
as far as i know yes.....do you know that KB and i can make sure?
kb5005260 i believe, right? if so then yup definitely have that
r
I've seen this exact thing. Please let me know if you figure it out....
a
that you can deselect IE11 but not re-enable? i'll let you know what comes from it. i got an email from my microsoft ticket that they have a team dedicated to that that should be able to help me (i'm still pessimistic but i'll let ya know how it goes 🙂
r
i have 2 systems doing this exact thing. Will not finish updates... even after upgrading successfully to two feature releases
a
Do you have the internet explorer 11 feature enabled too by chance?
r
I will confirm for you
a
Cool thanks. I'm our experience at least that's the issue and de selecting that lets me install the CUs. But I'm not and to re enable it again ( working through a support ticket on that)
r
The one i checked does NOT have Internet Explorer 11 feature enabled
a
well damn maybe different issue then. at least so far in my tests that seems to be the kicker for us. do you have the chromium edge installed? we did that last fall already to replace the old crappy edge and i know some of the later patches were making moves to force that
r
yes edgium is installed for sure.
a
cool yup that 5260 ssu pre-req (if you dont have the may patch) i knew about and do have that so must be something else in our environment. i did notice on our developer image i dont seem to have the issue so something in our other image....just no idea what. here's the patches i have on there though.
i believe i found the culprit for us here with this issue.....turns out it was our Fslogix hiding rule for WinSCP that was causing the issue....i think we used the automatic scanning option for that and it pulled in a whole mess load of registry keys (one problematic one specifically HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp) which was conflicting w/ the IE 11 feature which caused CU's to crash when they were being applied. I just started uninstalling a bunch of 3rd party apps on a whim and narrowed it to Fslogix and then further by adding just 1 rule at a time so already had the idea of the issue and lined up w/ the MS tech who was seeing access violations in our cbs.log for HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp. so far just removing that rule i'm working again!

Very nice. Sadly for me, I do not have FSLogix in this environment.
a

r

a
good luck! feel free to reach out if w/ any roadblocks you are still hitting.....who knows if i found anything that might be helpful. i tried so many different things on this one w/ different levels of success
