It might not make sense technically, but CIO/CTO/CFO often see it differently
n
so what youre saying is "move to the cloud even if its not justifiable?"
PS - My friend works for an MSP, they've moved more workloads back from the cloud than to the cloud recently. Scale is great, price, not so much
b
I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it is. MSFT and other vendors make deals that don't take into account technical requirements
n
Price is big... M365 is expensive, and I see no benefit compared to what we currently do, personally. Maybe on some fringe use cases.
b
M365 or Windows 365?
n
Sorry, Windows 365. No idea why I wrote M365.
o
Yea, to me as a partner, its another tool in the toolbox. Fixed fee is easy but $$$$. So yea, special use cases for certain customer situations for sure.

Greed

Yeah lots love the predicable cost even if more

I am an MSP, and we are actively moving loads from Azure back to our datacenter because cost/performance
m
Private Cloud is back baby

"Cloud Adjacent"
😆 1
r
Really though, to get the same performance in Azure (disk mostly) the cost is nearly double
Even with RIs
m
I'm not sure how these cloud adjacent data centers work if you need to ship a ton of data out of the cloud, aren't you then paying a ton in fees?
r
yes, it costs money to get the data out. it is what it is...
n
We have one use case that may work with Windows 365 - patient/family devices, where they would access a persistent virtual desktop that's really has no insight into our domain. And even then, that use case seems like a bit of a waste.
r
Would anyone consider that? Completely different market imo - AVD I can see some reasons and overlap in audience... but Windows 365 I can see SMB <10 user types - an engineering company with 3 seats of SolidWorks CAD allowing someone to work at home who usually uses a decent workstation - the type of org that used Frame / OpenBoundaries etc... or perhaps a law firm employing 10 summer students/interns
n
I think somebody higher up in the food chain just wanted to see if we could make use of our E5 contract a little more. Who the hell knows.
