GPOs?
m
it's probably GPO. Blocking store access will kill it off I think. Ran into a problem with my GM when I re-did it with 1909 the first time and kept seeing that problem
g
I think it somehow is caused by app volumes. I have been rolling back my snapshots and the apps are available until I install app volumes. When I create a pool from a snapshot taken after app volume install it either does not work or sporadically
m
that shouldn't matter. I use appvols here and it works. I noticed it was something with store and it installs the apps when the user logs in. Works fine with the admin account, but as soon as anyone else logs in, things stop working
g
look at that. yes they do appear when using an admin account. However, I have seen it work without admin privileges but it appears that at some stage the behaviour changes (as I install more and take snapshots). Did you get around it eventually for non-admin users?
m
Yes. I need to double-check, but it's specifically a Microsoft Store policy in GPO that is the cause of that
you may be able to get away with just this
computer Configuration -> Admin Templates -> Windows Components -> Store
Disable all apps from Microsoft Store
set that to "Not configured" or "disabled" and it should clear up any lingering issues
with it enabled it blocks the apps from being created in a user's session and that causes the problems
g
Thanks @MDawg. What I am finding is when I set that policy, either disabled or enabled, e.g. the calculator app re-appears but I cannot open it. Says the app is blocked by admin. When I then remove\disable the GPO from the OU, I can open the app. This was not case before so I guess it cleared up some issues. Applying the GPO again with disable all apps in a disabled state gives me the blocked warning again. So do I just set policy and then remove it to clear the issue or am I missing something?
m
ok, I couldn't remember the specifics since it was a one and done, but setting it to "not configured" should be the end of @Guy Defryn (Datacom). Do that and things will work.
g
Hi @MDawg. At the risk of sounding stupid, Setting it to not configured is the same as not setting it all and allowing the system default. I did set it to not configured from disabled and it started working. I then disabled the GPO and it still worked (I did confirm via gpresult that policies were applied). So I am a bit confused as to why this did not work initially as there was no GPO to begin with (and inheritance blocked).
m
I'd love to know that myself, but it worked for me and I went with it
g
@MDawg I have done some more in depth testing and I am coming to conclusion that, for me at least, it may be related to FSlogix. Same image deployed in different OU. One OU has no GPO and works fine. The other OU has GPO for Fslogix, Onedrive, etc. I logged in with a user who did not have an existing FSLogix profile and it worked. Deleted my fslogix profile and it kicked into life. So my uneducated guess is that I somehow have to exclude any store related settings. Will ask some questions at FSlogix channel
