The URL list in the policy is just for the initial session.aspx call in which the client gets the list of URLs from the personalization servers site list. Once it contacts the server and makes that session.aspx call the URLs in the site are used from that point forward. In other words both policy and personalization need to have the VIP at the top.
m
So if need failover, (if VIP is down) I need to add servers in the default site?
l
If the VIP is expected to go offline then yes. I would think you'd have bigger issues if the entire VIP goes offline... 😛
m
Yes we have netscaler issue
l
Also if you have a need for 3 or more personalization servers then 1 server will not handle the load and you MUST have a VIP up and running.
m
So if I have VIP issue, I have to add VIP + srv1 + srv2 on both configuration? (Policy configuration and site)
l
Yep
m
Policy configuration and user personalisation
Virtual host is for VIP only?
l
Correct.
m
But I tried failover servers in default site and citrix apps take much time to launch
l
You'd need an EMMon log and check the session.aspx and config.aspx calls.
m
And if I add just srv1+srv2 in the default site?
And VIP+srv1+srv2 in the policy ?
l
Then the first call will go to the VIP and all other calls will go to srv1.
m
So the documentation is not clear
Because they said : you can configure in the combined console or personalisation console
l
I haven't looked at the documentation in probably 5-6 years, lol
m
With persinfo tool I can see the default site configuration
The first time a user logs on to a managed endpoint, the Environment Manager agent contacts the first Personalization Server to request the actual list of servers the endpoint should use (based on the sites configured in the database). The client then contacts the correct server to pull down the User Personalization configuration, containing the list of the applications which should be personalized for the user.
d
that's an exam question actually 😉
l
A bit misleading as its missing the first step of where to get the first URL to make the connection to the personalization server via the session.aspx call (AKA the policy or GPO). Without one of those you get nothing.
d
@Musklor if you need help with it, I'm back from customer meetings in EMEA next Monday, I can explain / help out. (and tell that you should migrate from UWM to IWC 😉 ). No need for IIS, VIPS or anything, much easier, just AC is more powerful
m
My customer doesn't want to migrate
😄
Today I set VIP + SRV1 + SRV2 in policy configuration and VIP + SRV1 + SRV2 in user personalisation (default site)
Ivanti support said it's the best approach
@Landon Winburn thanks for your help
@Dennis van Dam if I change my job, I'll use IWC
