from what i remember horizon does have virtual channels for devices, much like citrix does. in the beginning it was generic usb redirection, but it got narrower as the years went on. i'd imagine you'd also want to investigate if they offload rendering to the endpoints as well
n
Trying to do that now, but am having zero luck finding it in their documentation.
n
setup a call with an SE would be my advice to get quick answers. let them do the walking
n
You responding to this post first, so you're my new SE........

not me, not a fan of horizon. i find it way too integrated in the vmware stack, you'll have to go with forking as well and vsan most likely, they'll push for the full stack and it gets really really complex when it comes to upgrades. i am a leader at my local vmug so i hear alot of different perspectives. pvs and cvad will seem like a walk in the park
the execs will love it as you get a horizon skew which gives you everything for free underneath it....esx. vsan, nsx, etc, etc....
n
All for the price of every employee's first born child and their salaries for a decade.
n
yea i guess. if you're just looking at pricing, its impossible to beat compared to cvad. the best hypervisor, storage and SDN you could ask for. just be prepared to hire 4 engineers to keep it going. if they really want horizon in the end, i would ship it all to the cloud. check out the upgrade path on horizon / esx there's a chart out there somewhere, well at least years ago there was. it was so complex with all of the steps and components in a particular order it gave me heart palpitations. like i said way too integrated and it got more complex as time went on
n
We have to evaluate "multiple vendors" for a new project, and VMware cloud is one of them.
n
yea i remember you saying that....all in 30 days too.....impossible.....
n
Man, their documentation is trash.
n
i dont envy you. really sounds like they are walking you into a mine field. update that resume
n
Oh, it's not me - it's one of the other Citrix admins. I'm helping out as much as I can so that he doesn't have to take full brunt of the lift.
