No, but interesting. Still using SPLA for my KMS keys. Let me know what you find out. We also do a lot of CSP, though mostly for O365 type licensing.

My reseller forced me into CSP stating VLSC is going away. Wasn't really my choice.

You talking Windows Server KMS?
o
Yea it's a whole thing.. they changed it going forward where now you make special request for them

A colleague of mine had this argument a few months back and failed. They refused to issue KMS keys even after telling them he wanted to use MCS. He even had to jump through a lot of hoops just to get the MAK count on Server Datacenter up to something usable. You can supposedly have an unlimited number of Windows VMs, but they still demanded a business justification for increasing the count. You can't just use the justification of "I bought Datacenter". In the end he had to use persistent VDAs. As far as we can tell, you will need to use the Open Value program to be able to get KMS keys.

or SPLA.

They won't let you buy from VLSC/Open anymore.

Hey Steve, I had a discussion with a Microsoft SAM / Licensing specialist about exactly that. Open Value is still a thing and not deprecated - you will get OV licenses in the new NCE Portal, as VLSC is dead. The actual "Workaround" by MS is to buy a minimum of 5x (that's the minimum order quantity in OV) Windows Server Datacenter OpenValue with SA (At OV, SA is obligatory) so you are able to get a KMS Key of these licenses to use for your whole CVAD site. Don't ask about the logic behind that, it's typically Microsoft...

FYI, CSP licenses cannot provide KMS, you can still buy Open Value and Open Value Subscripttion from certain partners/distributors. - the Open License is gone but not Open Value or Open Value Subscription which can provide KMS keys
