I would not try to rename it but maybe others here have done it and would recommend it. What I would do, is to create a new Forest with .it and create a Forest trust to your .local domain. Then you can set a strategy to migrate accounts and objects by phases.

And I remember that Horizon has not a big dependency on the domain and had a good support for multi-forest configuration but for me that was back in 2010, since then I've only worked on Citrix.

What worries me the most could be the fslogix profiles linked to the user sid?
k
I would worry about a whole lot more than FSLogix in that scenario. I would say that the user SID would remain the same event after a domain rename, but why would you even consider a domain rename?
f
LOL Kasper, my colleagues involved care about the rest! The customer wants to change the domain name onprem ... the truth because honestly it is a mystery.
It would be helpful to understand if making a parallel domain trust is better or worse than renaming the domain. In my part involved there is the horizon infrastructure, fslogix and Netscaler with native OTP for farm horizon access.

I have never met anyone who dared to rename a domain

dumb question: adding a upn suffix and let users login with their mailadress is not enough?

That's what I'd do too ...
