Greetings everyone. I have been doing some research past days around FSLogix. I know that this is a very famous topic and I have mentioned something similar before but the customer doesn't care if FSLogix is ment to take a lot of space, they see costs and want to optimize if possible, as much as possible. They are at around 30TB with around 6000 profiles and I see apps like teams, taking up around 3GB just from launching teams. Edge is taking up 500MB-1GB as well, per profile. Now imo, this is quite normal but for the customer an average 10GB per profile is not acceptable, they want to take it down even more, preferably to 5GB or less. I found this from microsoft which is latest and greatest but this is not the teams folder that takes up the most space. So I am simply not going to save 2GB space per user on this configuration. How does your FSLogix XML look today(the ones that are up2date) ? I feel like its either go ham and start excluding big parts of teams (which will have a direct user experience hit) or give them a different solution which will be very messy. They do have a disc compact script running every night which frees up around 1TB for the next morning and then during the day they end up at around 200GB, rinse and repeat. There is also a lot of white space or empty space that is taking up space which the disc compact hopefully frees up. A profile can be around 10GB but actual size might be around 3-6GB when checking through treesize. I also see a lot of logs like "There is a mismatch in the identifiers of the parent virtual hard disk and differencing disk." in the FSLogix logs. So not sure what they have been doing here learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/tutorial-redirections-xml

It will just re-cache if you exclude it
b
Storage dedup might be your path. Pure storage was able to do between 8:1 and 20:1 on profiles. Same applies to mcs cache disks :)

just use the pruning scripts and dont't use the redirections.xml because that's NOT what it is for

This is what we use for Chrome and Edge to keep browser AppData folders small.

This is why I have switched back to recommending UPM. Using file based for the majority of the profile, and just using containers for the sub components drastically reduces storage space, and allows for dedupe on those files that are the same cross profiles outside the containers.

Thank you everyone for the replies, this has been a tough once since they don't want to renew their environment and instead want to optimize what is already there. Been looking at the prune scripts and testing but it can become a mess with 6000 profiles quite quickly since the scripts are far from ready to go so you have to modify them quite a lot and develop them since it has to open 6000 vhdx disks each night. This is a good way to go but I see this for the future. Right now my only option is exclusions and then try to free up empty space in the vhdx files. The disc compact feature is not working as it should with the latest FSLogix version, simply doesn't free up empty space otherwise this could be a temporarily way of saving the profiles. I might try Andys exclusion list..
