Hi all - just wondering if other are experiencing the same. Our setup is windows server 2025, vda 2603, 8 CPU 32 GB ram - this runs 23-24 users with published virtual applications, cpu load 40-50% and ram same - but lately we see a rise in ram usage and bad performance of the servers - many edge.exe and edgewebview2 processes are being spawned - we have not checked for this before, but memory is being eaten at a fast pace now - antifvirus is Defender, with all exclusions in place. This is now over the last 14 days increased

edge/webview apps are a cancer and behave appropriately for their designation from what i've seen - even just on my main non-virtualized win11 PC, if i start seeing weirdness/memory issues (even w/64g ram), i can pretty much guarantee there's going to be a boatload of those subprocesses as the culprit. it seems like it's become a lazy out for bad developers to push apps out quickly, with little to no performance testing under the excuse that it's written for full desktops in uncontrolled environments. </soapbox> 😄

8vCPU / 32 GB RAM and 24 users ? you are a lucky man ! With this config I can't put more than 8 users ! (published desktop).

We only run apps here and it has performed well untill 2 weeks ago

Do you have Defender setup for VDI offload? That helps considerably.

We have this with the full W25 desktop, same specs. Commit memory, pagefile increased 4x Between w22 vs w25. No fix except setting the pagefile in static.

Have you tried disabling the hardware acceleration on your devices? I've seen it enabled for some customers and disabling it seemed to alleviate some of the performance issues - assuming you don't have GPUs on those VDAs. Either via GPO (iirc CC\admx\Microsoft Edge\), Policy name HardwareAccelerationModeEnabled = disabled, or regkey HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge, REG_DWORD, "HardwareAccelerationModeEnabled" = 0

Thanks @Alexander Pressler - will try that

@Alexander Pressler I somehow remembered, that this is not necessary anymore, as modern browsers and modern operating systems auto detect this and a manual deactivation is not necessary anymore. But I could be mistaken with another product. It could be that I mix that with the Citrix policies for hardware offloading.

Interesting, haven't heard that, ill see if I can dig up any li ks as well

Perf was really bad until I set a static pagefile to 16GB (RAM is 45GB), very old school but it worked. msedgeview2 is committing load of memory. According to MS doc, GPU is detected if available but that's worth trying. Saying that msedgewebview2 is used by Teams, start menu and more, it's everywhere.

@Marco Hofmann actually sounds plausible and would make sense, but manually deactivating did shave off a substantial amount of time of loading time in webview2 apps or browser pages that rendered more than usual. Might be worth a try anyways, its not like its difficult to implement or revert.

trying the HardwareAccelerationModeEnabled set to disabled (0) - lets see how this works out
