curious how people are handling this Director/shadow issue after the jan 2026 updates. kind of sounds like that option in director is probably dead now and citrix is moving to HDX screen share. we have the policies in place and the tray icon but a ton less convenient to not have this accessible to initiate from director so curious what people think. we're on 2402 cu3 (and used the CR version of director option during the install ). i was hopeful doing that might get around the issue but no such luck https://support.citrix.com/external/article/CTX695983/citrix-director-unable-to-shadow-sessio.html

Temporary workaround in place (old MSRA executable). A support case is open with Citrix, who confirmed the fix is planned for 2402 LTSR CU4

thanks for the update! so how does that temporary workaround work? cu4 i' sure isnt RIGHT around the corner lol

The workaround is to restore the pre‑January msra.exe in C:\Windows\System32. The only caveat is that the operation must be carried out via TrustedInstaller

how did you handle that if you dont mind? i'll have to see if we have any one that doesnt have that jan update so far

I was hearing 2402 CU4 was scheduled for mid-March. They have Early Access Release available. I do not see anything in the current CU4 release notes about remote assist.

It's a pain, workaround worked with Jan 26 update but broke with CU2602, W22 OS with 2402CU3 VDA and infra. I'm curious François-Xavier how come it works for you!

It is broken for me again as of the Feb cumulative updates. I have resigned to using the HDX Sharing with the long code as I'm on 2402. Even ControlUp is broke now and it continued to work with the Jan Cumulative updates.

@jvitech HD uses WS2019. Will double-check on WS2022 version tomorrow.

i tried to enable HDX screen sharing in 2511 via director. (I think) i fullfield all requirements, however the button is still greyed out. Any idea? The graphics indicator is enabled in the user session and i can generate a screen sharing code

Yeah the screen sharing happens in the graphics indicator. The user initiates the screen sharing from their graphics indicator, shares the connection code with someone, and the technician uses their graphics indicator to connect to their session code.

February patching broke it again in W22 and replacing the exe doesn't work anymore.

we've been told it will release next CU, I am trying to get a private hotfix. Also, this HDX shadowing is not reliable, I didn't look too much into it.

@jvitech what is the issue you are seeing with HDX Shadowing?

@Rody Kossen The network connection was closed unexpectedly! It points to network/FW but we shadow from the same type of desktop/subnet, no FW between them. It can also work a bit. I didn't even look for the log tbh. I am on 2402 CU3.

ya i'm not a fan of the hdx shadowing so far needing to get a code. honestly we've been starting to use the remote access via controlup and its vastly superior. annoying to have to go to another console to get to it but so much better. if citrix can fix the director shadow it will be still helpful though for our help desk
