Trying to understand this unlimited capacity you get with LAS, based on the below URL. Gone are the days you buy a certain number of licenses for your environments user count? There's no true up or anything? What am i missing here? https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/licensing/current-release/license-activation-service.html

Correct. It's the same like on Citrix DaaS. You buy a specific amount, but there's not technical limit. In the last years, one (DaaS) customer had to extend their license amount because they were in overdraft every month.
s
gotcha, well that's pretty nice. So if your in the middle of a 3 year term, and you know you'll be getting 1k more users, you don't really need to do anything...just pretty much wait for Citrix to say you need to buy more licenses?
m
Yep. But not sure how Citrix is calculating the renewal prices when they see you used 1k+ users more for 1,5 years 😄
s
yeah, this is all just new to me, not really understanding the business model here, but I guess that's not my job 🙂
here i am complaining about them not charging me for using additional licenses....

Its new to everyone and I assume no one knows how Citrix behaves in that situation... But I dont want to be the first one to find out tbh...

Well, LAS was built because people cheated with licenses files. It was so easy to create them without Citrix being able to check that people created way more licenses files (and by extension licenses) that they were allowed to. I guess if we don't want to face another technology/policy enforcement that we are leaving today (and generating a lot of headaches to some people), we should just do what our contracts allow us to.

@Julian Jakob, for the DaaS customer that was in overdraft, I presume that was only for concurrent? 5 or 6 years ago we had 20,000 U/D in cloud on an orgid/ccid that only had 100 'licenses' and it never enforced any kind of limit or overdraft.
