Have an interesting one today. Windows 11, MCS, 2507... They are having odd lockup and Outlook issues with FSLogix so we thought we'd try UPM (Containers). Those issues went away but we're now having this thing where notepad launches with an un-hidden desktop.ini file... every session launch; same image as that used for FSLogix so I know it's not the image. Tried excluding the desktop.ini from being in the container - but before I just go back in time and go with the file-based solution... thought I'd ask around here if anyone's seen this strangeness and what was done to fix it? Oh - and we tried deleting the file from the image, things like that...

The newer versions of notepad will open the last file that was open. Have you tried turning off that setting? Go into settings there is a when Notepad starts setting.

But... why is it launching at all would be my question. What you are describing is I think a user based setting and its doing it with brand new profiles... and only with UPM containers.

sorry thought you were meaning to launch notepad and it was opening the ini file all the time. is a strange one, do they have the latest admx for citrix profiles installed?

I'm configuring it with Studio for these guys but yeah, its up to date. Have not installed CU1 yet. On the post-freeze list of things to try.
To follow up on this one - after a XenServer and Firmware patch things cleared up. They did apply CU1 as well but I think it was network related for the core issue. That said, we never did 100% figure out the notepad launch thing and ended up just going back to FSLogix now that it's stable. On to the next!

...and, now at a completely different client on Server 2025 with 2507 CU1... Moar drama! I have the notepad issue again, but I'm joined by its friends Start Menu Delay and Search Fail (search bar doesn't work). Really strange too when you have no exceptions configured and look at the local profile... you'll see directories created in all lower case for things like Autocad. Makes me think theres some hard coded default that is screwing this up or something? Remove UPM, it works fine. UPM in full container- issues. UPM in file mode was a mixed bag, like search would work but the Start Menu would occasionally lock up completely and the entire server has to be force reset at the hypervisor because the session would NOT end. I really wanted to believe UPM was better, but I am now having full on doubts. Anyone else seeing this?
